A council of indigenous and other nation women, who convened in response to the 1000 Hummingbird Vision, received in the wake of a profound concern for indigenous families subjected to regional contamination of their drinking water. 1000 Hummingbird "All Women, All Nations" Vision literally came from a sustained hummingbird encounter that could not be dismissed. The exchange was 'heard' as a clarion call for Women to step up for the Waters; for that which supports and sustains All Life; for All Peoples. Mothers and Grandmothers especially responded... knowing; … It's about our babies; our children; our sons and daughters. It's about everything we cherish; all that we hold dear. California Central Coast Ohlone/Costanoan elders came together to weigh the intent of the tiny hummingbird, and concurred that a moment of great magnitude was upon us. The elders decreed that an ancient protocol be enacted. Women; specifically women was their unanimous conclusion, women would be invited to gather for 4 consecutive years, hosted in Ohlone/Costanoan territory (San Francisco Bay Area) for the express purpose of applying collective wisdom to issues of environmental, social and economic equity. This historic decision was made with stark knowledge of the vulnerability of women, most particularly mothers, confronted with hazardous conditions that can only be resolved through broad collaborations and civic action. Beyond this 4 year-cycle would not be known except by honoring this initial commitment. HUMMINGBIRD WOMEN The mission of the Hummingbird Women is not simple to describe in words alone. It is the devotion to heal and sustain the well-being of Earth for all, fully knowing that the reasons and ways to do so are countless! 2011 marks the third year in the 4-year cycle. The inaugural Spring {2009} saw over 100 women converge, from all over the States, as well as from far distant shores. This number tripled in the second year. Of these women, many were drawn by word of mouth, while a handful were alerted through equally astonishing and unprecedented hummingbird encounters. The rich and enriching cross-pollination of hummingbird women has begun and the song goes out; Water Knows No Boundaries, the World is My Family; "All My Relations". For more information visit:
